Custom Division Manager
Currently the manager of our Custom Division, which deals primarily with custom-installed home systems, Chris Bowland has had a long and varied career in the A/V business. A longtime audio hobbyist himself, he started off at a small audio store in Texas (although he is a Colorado native) selling car stereo systems, and eventually moved into home audio sales.
Upon his return to the Denver area, Chris began his ListenUp career as a salesman at our Denver store, and then managed the car stereo department for two years. After a subsequent six-year stint as manager of our Colorado Springs store, Chris returned to the Denver location for a spell before he became manager of the Custom Division. “It’s certainly never dull around here,” says Chris. “My job is always technically challenging and it requires a lot of organization, which I enjoy. I also like the fact that the ownership here cares about their employees and is willing to invest in them to make them more successful.”
In his spare time Chris is an avid fly-fisherman and cyclist. “My family goes back four generations here in Colorado, and I grew up loving the outdoors and respecting wildlife.” He is also very involved in his local church community. Chris and his wife have three children, one of whom has Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disease which requires round the clock care.

Matt Beebe is originally from Enid, Oklahoma and moved to Texas when he was 15. Like many flatlanders, though, he succumbed to the allure of the mountains and eventually ended up in Breckenridge as a young adult. That's where he got into the audio/video business, working for a custom integrator up there for three years before coming to ListenUp.
"I really like the ability to have access to all of the new technologies and trying to find ways to integrate them into people's lives without creating more hassles," says Matt. "It's really rewarding to be able to give them a system that's technologically advanced, yet can be easily operated at the touch of a button."
Matt and his wife and young daughter currently live in Conifer. "When we moved down from Breckenridge we couldn’t give up the mountains. It’s worth the commute to be able to have a home where I can take off right out of my front door to go biking, hiking, fishing, and all the other stuff that makes living here so great."
It appears that for this native of Oklahoma, Colorado is OK.

Mike Chapman comes by his interest in electronics naturally, as his father was a rep in the A/V industry and eventually owned a Denver retail franchise. There was always a lot of audio gear around the house — in fact, Mike can still wax rhapsodic about listening to the classic Who’s Next album on his brother’s 8-track player and a pair of Electrophonic headphones.
“I’ve always been passionate about music and music systems, and that’s one of the reasons why I like working at ListenUp. We have a very deep organization with a lot of resources in terms of computerized system design, engineering, installation, and service. There are whole bunch of outfits out there comprised of two or three guys who say they can install a system for you, but not many places can match what we do.”
Mike has had a plethora of positions at ListenUp — he was the manager of our car stereo department (back when we had one), managed both the Colorado Springs and Denver stores at various times, and was in charge of our online store when we were getting that of the ground. Today he is a salesman in our Contract Division. “I really enjoy system design for distributed A/V and dedicated home theaters, and our Reference Theater is an incredible tool to show people what’s possible,” says Mike.
It’s a long way from “Baba O’Riley” on 8-track.

A veteran of the A/V business since 1981, Dusty Gorski moonlighted as a stand-up comic for several years in the mid-80s. Performing in area clubs and colleges at night while working for a Milwaukee audio store by day, he kept himself pretty busy before he finally decided to hang up his skinny tie.
In the 90s, Dusty moved to the Centennial State to work for a Denver A/V retailer, a job which eventually led him more heavily into custom systems. “Milwaukee wasn’t a very sophisticated market for custom,” he says (tell that to Laverne and Shirley!), “so I was pleased to find a much more active market out here where the clientele embraced distributed audio, video and control.” Eventually Dusty did national sales training for custom-oriented manufacturers AMX and Escient before briefly owning his own business. When he was approached with a job offer by ListenUp owner Walt Stinson, Dusty joined our staff in 2000.
“The opportunities and support are much greater here than when I was on my own. The ListenUp name is well known and well respected in the industry and in this market, which offers instant credibility. I have found success in higher level projects featuring built-in components, home automation and advanced control. And because work with the same project manager and lead installer on all my projects, there’s a continuity and efficiency to the jobs we do.”
