PSB Alpha C1 Details

PSB Alpha C1: A voice-matched center speaker for your Alpha system

The PSB Alpha C1 center channel speaker is tuned for optimum sound from its real-world location on top or below a television.

  • 3/4-inch aluminum dome tweeter with neodymium magnets
  • Two 5-1/4-inch woofers with metalized polypropylene cones and damped rubber surrounds
  • Key-hole slots for horizontal or vertical orientation
  • Five-way gold-plated binding posts
PSB recognizes that the center-channel speaker is actually the most important position in any surround system, so the multipurpose Alpha C1 is rigorously engineered to exacting standards of accuracy, power handling, and bass extension. These combine for solid sound whether the magnetically shielded Alpha C1 is used to complement a pair of B1s or T1s or in an identical left/center/right front array. The Alpha C1 is ideally tonally matched to the entire Alpha lineup, and unlike many other center speakers it is tuned for correct balance from its real-world location on top or below a television, where the large, acoustically reflective screen will otherwise significantly degrade vocal clarity.

The Alpha C1 center channel speaker offers better midrange characteristics and low frequency response to handle complex on-screen action and dialogue. Using a pair of 5.25-inch midrange drivers and a single .75-inch aluminum dome tweeter in a rear-ported cabinet for increased bass response, the Alpha C1 delivers a surprisingly large soundstage from such a compact enclosure.

Audiophile-grade terminals; proprietary-design drivers and subwoofer circuitry, plus a host of mounting options (including key-hole slots for horizontal or vertical orientation) are a few of the details you won’t find on other “value” speakers.

More about the Alpha Series
The PSB Alpha Series is perhaps the most versatile and widely praised range of affordable high performance loudspeakers made today. Although it didn’t happen all at once, over the course of 15 years this highly optimized Alpha Series has evolved into a family of models ready to enrich most any system, from the simplest bookshelf setup to an entire multi-channel home theater, with unbeatable sound per dollar spent.

“Paul Barton (PSB’s founder and chief designer) is a legend in the speaker business” says Stereophile’s Robert Reina. “For 30 years this musician and engineer has dedicated his life to providing speaker purchasers with higher levels of sonic realism at lower prices. Barton is a frugal perfectionist, and his obsession with psychoacoustics is evident in all his designs.”

While the Alpha Series represents the entry into the PSB family of speakers, it also represents their commitment to deliver the highest level of performance possible at reasonable pricing.

The design team at PSB worked tirelessly to build a speaker line from the ground up using technologies found in our higher-end offerings. The end result is an affordable speaker with a modern, yet simple look that has already received accolades from professional reviewers. From newly designed drivers to solid modular cabinets, the Alpha series is a tangible illustration of PSB’s commitment to excellence and value.

There are five different Alpha models, so you can integrate an Alpha system to suit many audio needs, whether it’s a simple, great-sounding stereo setup or a deceptively powerful, multi-channel digital-surround home theater — or even a desktop-audio workstation. What’s more, the Alpha Series is video shielded, and tonally matched, so you can mix and match just the combination of power, range, and size your individual system demands.
