This Saturday, April 21st is the 10th annual Record Store Day. The first Record Store Day was held on April 19th, 2008 to celebrate and promote the more than 1400 independent, locally-owned music stores across the US and internationally. Today, Record Store Day is recognized on every continent except Antarctica. You can read more about how it all started here. In honor of Record Store Day, we have put together a list of our favorite vinyl happenings to help you celebrate.
NEW TURNTABLE RELEASES
This sleek addition to McIntosh’s Precision Turntable line is an “entry level” alternative to the larger MT5 model, and sports a darker, more understated profile. The MT2 plays both 33-1/3 and 45 rpm records. It is virtually ready-to-use out of the box as tracking force, anti-skate force, cartridge overhang and arm height are all preset from the factory for maximum performance. The remaining setup steps are simple to let you enjoy your vinyl in a snap. This turntable is currently available via special order through any ListenUp location.
PROJECT DEBUT III S AUDIOPHILE
Though it was technically introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Pro-Ject is now beginning to ship the newest addition to their popular Debut III turntable line: The Debut III S Audiophile. The addition of the ‘S’ moniker describes the redesigned, s-shaped tone-arm reminiscent of the iconic Technics SL-1200 turntable, and is intended to reduce distortion. It also features upgraded aluminum footing and a pre-fitted, specially designed Ortophon cartridge.
REGA LIMITED-EDITION RSD 2018 TURNTABLE
To celebrate Record Store Day 2018, Rega has announced an exclusive limited-edition turntable that will be available at select record stores and independent hi-fi retailers on beginning on April 21st, 2018. Production of this turntable was limited to 500 units.
Built around the stunning, high gloss acrylic skin plinth from the award winning Rega Planar 2, this year’s RSD turntable delivers a serious punch. Featuring a high performance, low noise, 24v high spec motor driving a precision main bearing, you will also find the award-winning hand-built RB110 tonearm (factory fitted with a Rega Carbon cartridge) designed to deliver exceptional performance while remaining one of the simplest turntables to set-up on the market. Taking full advantage of the latest design technology, it also includes a custom design mat and exclusive white platter for a unique look and truly exceptional performance in a simple to use package.
EXCLUSIVE ALBUM RELEASES
