“I’m only the third owner of this home,” Jason says. “For some reason the previous owners had boarded up the access to the attic. When we looked up there we found this amazing space, which is now one of my favorite rooms in the house. ”The attic has been transformed into a high-end audio/video sanctuary. Two B&W 802D floorstanding speakers with diamond tweeters are powered by McIntosh electronics (MC402 power amplifier, C220 tube pre-amp and MC500 CD player) for absolutely exquisite sound, while the 50-inch flat-panel HDTV offers the deeper blacks and enhanced color saturation of Samsung’s latest LED technology.
“I’m a bit of an audiophile,” Jason explains, “and I’ve always loved B&W speakers — I’ve owned at least a half-dozen pairs over the years. But these 802D’s are truly remarkable. There’s this one drum part on the Steely Dan song ‘Josie’ that I’ve always wanted to get right, but I could never really hear it clearly enough. The first time I played the song on the 802's, though, it was a revelation — I could finally hear exactly how it was supposed to sound!”
In addition to being an accomplished drummer, Jason also plays keyboards, bass and guitar, and he is now able to indulge these musical passions in his new basement recording studio. This professional-grade setup includes a full control room and an acoustically optimized performance area with two full drum kits and a generous assortment of guitars and keyboards. With B&W SCMS speakers and a 50-inch Samsung LED flat-panel all mounted on the wall, a Velodyne DD-10 subwoofer for rich bass and Sonos and Crestron controllers to easily access all of Jason’s digital content, the studio is not only a place to make music, it’s a great place to enjoy it, too.
Jason found out about ListenUp when he received our Source Book in the mail (which will surely warm the heart of our marketing director). “I looked through the mailer and saw some great stuff in there,” Jason recalls. “Then I started asking around about the company and heard nothing but good things. I like the fact that ListenUp has the resources to do a complex job like mine. Marty Wilson did the engineering, Drew Prisoc supervised the installation, and Jeff Woolbright did a really amazing job taking care of all the many details. Before I started this project I did interview some smaller companies, but I just don’t think one guy can do all those things effectively…
“Jeff and ListenUp have been beyond awesome. I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in a high-end system."
