Out of this world

ListenUp brings state-of-the-art technologies to a Roswell, New Mexico estate. This job won the 2018 TechHome Mark of Excellence Award for Multi-Room Audio/Video Project of the Year from the Consumer Technology Association.

Roswell-sign-lowWhen Randy and Jacque started working on their dream home, their interior designer called Shawn Mills at ListenUp in Albuquerque about doing the electronics.

“The Millers were initially interested in a dedicated theater, surround sound for their great room and music outdoors,” says Shawn. “Once we met with them, though, the scope of the job expanded into a comprehensive system that encompasses pretty much every part of their property.”

“Talking with the guys at ListenUp and seeing their capabilities, I was all in,” says Randy. “And I haven’t been disappointed. It’s been everything I was looking for and more.”

A whole-house system

The 5-1/2-acre estate includes a 10,000-square-foot main house and a separate two-story building with a six-car garage, home theater and game room. The Crestron distributed audio/video system includes over 30 zones. B&W architectural speakers and Sony 4K TVs are in nearly every room.

The family can control climate, front-gate access, garage doors, security cameras and more from iPads and Crestron touchscreens located throughout the home, as well as from apps on their smartphones. The Lutron panelized lighting and shade system allows one-touch control of pre-set vignettes and any desired settings. And the business-class Cisco network with Ruckus wireless makes sure there are few, if any, outages.

“The system has really streamlined our life,” says Randy. “For instance, I don’t have to walk around the whole house to turn off lights. Or, if the kids want to watch a movie in the playroom, I can just select it and turn it on from wherever I am.”
