With ListenUp since 1997
We asked Evan Stinson when he started working at ListenUp. “If you ask me I’d say when I was seven, but if you ask the IRS — and maybe child services — it was closer to 1997… Embarrassingly enough, I can’t remember the exact date!” Well, that’s understandable, considering his parents founded the company and he’s been around it his entire life.
“For obvious reasons, I’ve always been interested in electronics, I once built a ham radio inside of an Altoids can, and, I’m not bragging or anything, but I built a speaker and won second place in my elementary school science fair, too,” he laughs. Evan has also worked in varying capacities at ListenUp, including in the warehouse, doing deliveries, as an installer, as a project manager in our Custom Division, and now as manager of our Boulder store.
“It’s really a great business to be in because we get to play with all the cool new gadgets, it keeps me mentally active, and almost every job is different, so everyday is new and exciting.”

Jim Kearns has been a salesman in our Boulder location since 1989. “I’m originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey. I’ve been an audio enthusiast since the early seventies, and actually in the audio/video business since 1984. Before that I was a carpenter who did some remodels for audio stores. I have been in sales for my entire tenure here, and I really enjoy being able to meet a lot of people from many backgrounds. But enough about me…”

Boulder native Todd Phillips has always worked in the music industry in one form or another. While attending Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, he worked as the Operations Director and on-air DJ for KDUR community radio. Shortly after moving back to his hometown, he began his career in sales with ListenUp’s Boulder store, further deepening his love of music. “When you get to listen to music all day and play with gadgets and thousands of dollars of audio equipment, it’s a pretty good gig.”
One of Todd’s favorite projects was working with a customer to install a recessed TV above his fireplace flanked with in-wall speakers, each surrounded by custom cabinetry and tile. “You get to really see the complexities and custom approach at ListenUp.”
When he’s not selling custom equipment, Todd can be found hiking with his Border Collie, playing video games or working at home in his garden.

Mike Dean is an A/V industry hobbyist turned employee. “I’m a huge music fan, so getting people set up with a nice stereo and turntable is probably my most fun task.” He has been working for ListenUp since 2012 and enjoys his job because it ties a lot of different communities together: music lovers, movie fans and technology buffs. Mike especially likes working for ListenUp because of the local business feel, but with an extremely informed staff. “People know our name and quality of work, and it’s nice to know that our knowledge is appreciated and sought out.”
No matter what your passion is for your home system, Mike will find the perfect pairing for your audio video needs. When he’s not working with customers in our Boulder store, Mike enjoys doing anything outside. “I love running, fishing and just generally anything outdoors.”

Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Andy Nizzotti first decided he wanted to live in Colorado while visiting during a soccer tournament in the 8th grade. He told his parents, “Some day I’ll live in Colorado.” In 2009 he finally saw that dream to fruition when he moved to Boulder. He joined the ListenUp team in 2013.
Andy chose to join the ListenUp team because of the company’s most valuable assets. “When it comes to introducing current and emerging technology, there’s no better resource than ListenUp’s qualified and experienced staff.”
Now, with more than 13 years experience in home automation and integration, Andy’s true calling lies in helping to use technology to make people’s lives more simple. “I really enjoy helping clients simplify and understand the operation of their home’s electronic environment.” He takes pride in providing a personal and customizable approach to each system he designs.
Both sides of Andy’s family are originally from Argentina and he’s fluent in Spanish. When he’s not dedicating his time to his growing customer base, Andy is an outdoor enthusiast. “I love to fish, live for snowboarding, do all types of biking and try to see as much live music as possible.”
Pat Bates got his first taste of the A/V industry working on car installation fabrication at 16 years of age in his hometown of San Diego, California. After moving to Denver in 2003, he started working for the install team in our Smart Home division. The transition was a natural one. “I really like home automation and the challenge of syncing devices to control people’s residences.” Pat has now moved up to become a project manager for our Boulder location.
The California boy in Pat feels right at home in Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle. “In my free time I like doing photography, mountain biking, off-roading and snowboarding.”

Originally a native of the Buckeye state, you might say that David moved to Colorado for the craft beer scene and adrenaline-filled lifestyle of the Rocky Mountains. But we like to think that he’s stayed for more than a decade because he loves working for ListenUp. “ListenUp has always had good people, and a good attitude in this industry.” David is no exception to this rule. With almost 20 years experience in the A/V industry, you can be sure you’re working with a true industry expert with a great attitude.
His favorite project so far has been working with one of ListenUp’s very first customers, who still relies on us to this day. “As far as I know, he’s always tweaking his system to make it better.”
When he’s not providing excellent customer service and system installation, David spends his time with his wife and two boys enjoying all that the Colorado lifestyle has to offer.

Jim Bixel left Pennsylvania for colorful Colorado in 2004 and joined the ListenUp team as a field technician about eight years later. He enjoys working for ListenUp because of the continuous changes in the industry. “Even the day-to-day jobs have a large amount of variance.”
Jim recently spent seven months living in Breckenridge working on one of the largest custom installs that the company has ever undertaken. “ListenUp allows you the opportunity to work with really high-end gear on state-of-the-art installations.”
When he’s not dedicating seven months of his life to a work project, Jim usually spends his time playing or watching soccer and hiking with his girlfriend and dog.

Steve Valdez is a member of the very talented installation team in our Boulder retail store. He has over a decade of experience in the A/V industry and joined the ListenUp family in 2012. “I like seeing all of the new products that come out. I also really like what I do and enjoy all the people I work with here at ListenUp.”
Technically speaking, Steve Valdez knows what he’s doing, having held previous positions building circuit boards and various other A/V positions.
When he’s not working, Steve spends his free time hunting, fishing and playing pool.
