Sigma Series 2200i Stereo Integrated Amplifier
“If you want a world-class digital stereo system that also doubles as great two-channel home theater system, if you actually use your iPhone as a music source like a normal human being, if you’re tired of buying a new outboard DAC every year just to shave three-sevenths of a picosecond off the theoretical jitter of your signal chain, then get thee to a Classé dealer to audition this integrated amp with your favorite reference tunes ASAP.”
– Dennis Burger, Home Theater Review
The Sigma 2200i Stereo Integrated Amplifier is designed for music lovers and AV enthusiasts who want high performance control and amplification from a diverse range of audio sources. Its connectivity and processing power accommodate the ever increasing array of music and AV sources, allowing them to be accessed and enjoyed without compromise.
As an integrated amplifier, the 2200i combines preamp and power amp functions in a single chassis. What’s special is its direct digital connection between the preamp section and the amplifier, which eliminates losses by removing digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversions from the signal path
The preamp section features connectivity and circuit blocks found in the Delta series CP-800 and Sigma SSP. Inputs include fully balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) analog with optional MM/MC phono, digital coax, optical, USB host and device, Ethernet for streaming and IP control and HDMI switching. Techniques like asynchronous synchronization and master clock mode allow for low jitter and high signal integrity. Analog sources are converted at 24/96 to preserve their original bandwidth and dynamic range.
Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
DSP is available to all sources; you can use it for bass management with a subwoofer to fill dips in the frequency response in your room while a nine-band parametric EQ can simultaneously eliminate the frequency response peaks; a customizable tone control can tame or add life to your less-than-perfect recordings. It all adds up to better sound from every recording in any room.
All digital signal path
Unlike outboard DACs and preamp/processors that must output analog signals for volume control and amplification, the 2200i leverages the true digital architecture of proprietary Classé switching amplifier design, connecting the output of the preamp DSP directly to the DSP input of the amplifier. There aren’t any DACs or ADCs nor is there any unnecessary analog circuitry between. The signal path is as short and direct as possible; signals remain digital all the way to the amplifier output filters.
From the DSP input to the speaker terminals the amplifier portion of the 2200i is the same as an AMP2 or CA-D200. The input signal comes direct from the preamp DSP, remaining in the digital domain throughout. Managing the switching technology to achieve <3 nanoseconds of dead-band time, the 2200i boasts the same low distortion broad-band performance as Classé’s separate amplifiers.
Clean, efficient power
Power is supplied by Classé’s proprietary switch mode power supply with power factor correction. With over 1,000W available, the 2200i coasts through passages that would bring lesser amplifiers to their knees. In addition to supplying clean, rock-steady voltage to the circuitry, this supply pulls power cleanly and efficiently from the wall. And even if you don’t worry about power consumption, you will benefit from the performance and reliability achieved from the comparatively cool-running circuitry contained in the 2200i’s modestly sized chassis.
Front panel touchscreen
A front panel touchscreen and both Android and Apple apps provide sophisticated yet intuitive control. DLNA and AirPlay streaming are supported over the Network connection and AV switching with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 allows convenient support of set top boxes, games and disc players. Whatever you want to listen to, the 2200i will remain faithful to the music and reliably deliver many years of listening pleasure.

Sigma Series AMP2 and AMP5 Power Amplifiers
“Finally, a Class D amp that doesn’t sound digital. The Classe AMP5 is a balanced, capable, and useful amplifier that is just as comfortable playing John Coltrane as it is playing John Mayer. It’s an amp that can resolve the smallest audio cues yet, in an instant, roar into the most dynamic action your Blu-ray player and AV preamp can feed it. Make no mistake: no AV receiver at any cost can compete with a combination of a Classe Sigma AV preamp and an AMP5 on so many levels.”
– Jerry Del Colliano, HomeTheaterReview.com
The Sigma AMP2 and AMP5 owe their outstanding performance and value to the unique engineering and manufacturing capabilities of Classé in Montréal and the B&W Group globally. No other high-end audio designers have access to the resources necessary to deliver such amplifiers at such competitive prices. The AMP2 and AMP5 have been conceived and built as examples of quality and value without peer. They will stand as benchmarks in the advancement of Class D amplifier technology.
Power, performance and value
Sigma series amplifiers are designed to pack tremendous power, performance and value into relatively small and energy efficient chassis. The Sigma series AMP2 is derived directly from the acclaimed Delta series CA-D200, sharing both power supply and amplifier circuitry. In the same way that Classé’s CT series models use the same circuitry as the equivalent Delta series, but in a different chassis, the AMP2 is actually the 200W/Ch CA-D200 in a Sigma series chassis. The AMP5 also shares these same power supply and amplifier topologies, but with the necessary changes implemented to accommodate its five-channel configuration.
Advanced switching technologies
The basis of the design is switching technologies, used in both the power supply and audio stages. A Classé-designed Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) and Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit, each operating at over 90% efficiency, provides a crystal clear reservoir of over 1kW of power. The low frequency dynamics, extension and control of these amplifiers and their ability to effortlessly drive diffi cult speaker loads can be credited in large part to the powerful and sophisticated power supply they employ. This combination of SMPS with PFC allows theSigma series amplifi ers to draw current from the wall throughout the voltage cycle, avoiding the sharp spikes of current drawn by conventional power supplies. Such sharp and short current demands cause high-frequency harmonics on the AC mains. By creating no such disturbance, the Sigma series amplifi ers deliver their prodigious power while remaining effectively silent as far as the AC shared with preamp/processor and source components.
Digital audio circuits
AMP2 and AMP5 audio circuits use a true digital architecture, taking advantage of DSP to solve an issue called dead-band-time, the greatest source of distortion in otherwise well-designed class D amplifiers. Dead-band-time, somewhat analogous to switching distortion in a class A/B amplifier, is the time when the plus and minus halves of the amplifier are both off; it should be as close to zero as possible and in this design it is less than three nanoseconds.2 With inherently low distortion, the Sigma series amplifiers use only a small level of overall negative feedback, helping to achieve low intermodulation distortion. Proprietary driver stage FETs ensure quick and precise switching of the output stage, contributing to the amplifiers’ vanishingly low dead-band-time and maximizing their efficiency. The critical output stage filters are then used to filter only the 384 kHz switching frequency, leaving the amplifier with a neutral, extended and open upper midrange and high-frequency performance.
