Possessing an effervescent enthusiasm for hi-fi and the patois of a jazzman, Scott Genaw has been a distinctive presence in our Denver store since 1990. An industry veteran all the way back to 1981, Scott first worked in our car stereo department for several years before moving into home audio.
“I dig working retail,” says Scott, “because on any given day we might do anything — sell a flat-panel TV, get someone 20 feet of speaker wire, or design a high-end system. And what better way to make a living than by helping people turn their music up?”
As a military brat Scott moved around a lot, but his family has deep roots in Colorado — he was born in Colorado Springs when his father was stationed at the Air Force Academy, and his great-grandmother actually moved here directly from Italy.
When not bringing better sound and video to the good people of Denver, Scott enjoys hunkering down at home with his eight vintage Turkish rugs, his two Chows and his long-time girlfriend — not necessarily in that order, of course.

Before coming to ListenUp, Kevin Russell was a flight attendant for 10 years — which may explain why he still makes sure all our theater recliners are in their full upright positions. He’d always had a passion for music, so when he and his wife moved to the Washington Park neighborhood in 1988 he applied for a job at ListenUp.
“I have no idea what they saw in a 33-year old former flight attendant with no sales experience, but they gave me a shot at it and I never looked back.”
This faith was amply rewarded, as Kevin has been one of ListenUp’s top salespeople. Though he works in the Denver store, he’s also been involved in some very sophisticated custom home systems. After one especially positive sales experience Kevin received a thank you letter from a grateful customer, in which she quoted from the I Ching: “Music has the power to ease tension within the heart and to loosen the grip of obscure emotions.”
“This is one of those notes that reminds me what it is we really do here at ListenUp,” says Kevin. He’d also like to know if you need a pillow or a blanket.

here’s definitely a football theme running through Justin Sanders’ time here at ListenUp. With his uncanny resemblance to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, he was immediately nicknamed “Matt” by his co-workers. And though he was raised here in Colorado, he was born in Omaha and continues to be an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan — which has earned him some other nicknames we can’t repeat here…
Before coming to ListenUp, Justin worked for a national audio/video integrator since 2000. He started out doing installations and eventually worked his way up to the position of business development manager.
Justin says he loves the dynamic nature of the industry. “I’ve always tried to stay on the leading edge of technology, and ListenUp is definitely the place to work to be able to play with and sell the latest and greatest equipment.” In fact, he has become the go-to guy when a fix is needed on any of the store’s displays.
“Guess I have the magic touch,” says Matt — er, Justin…

With a Dad who worked for Kellogg’s, Scott Weverstad lived all over when he was young, from California to Texas and Florida to Oregon. But the family ended up in —where else — Battle Creek, Michigan for Scott’s formative years. After high school Scott went to work for an A/V superstore in the Grand Rapids area for four years before moving over to Classic Stereo, a specialty store, for two more. His parents eventually moved to Denver, and so he moved out here and got a job at ListenUp back in 1994.
Scott’s been around music his whole life — his Mom was a choir director and church organist, and he took up the guitar when hew was 15. His band Off the Hook plays a couple of weekends every month, their favorite being a benefit for cancer research they do every year at the Highlands Ranch Town Center.
“I’ve always been into music, so that’s one of the things I love about working at ListenUp — I get to work in my hobby,” says Scott, who sites Santana and Pink Floyd as some of his musical influences. “Plus I get to visit some amazing homes when I’m helping clients set up their systems. All in all it’s a pretty good gig!”

Store Operations
Denver native Robert Bills has been charged up about electronics since he was eight years old, when he stuck a screwdriver in a light socket.
“It knocked me back about five feet,” he laughs, “but then I took the whole thing apart to see how it worked.” This inquisitive nature continued in his adult life, as he traveled throughout the country working as a bonded courier and then in the video department at Martin Marietta before he came to ListenUp.
Robert was a leading member of our install staff for nine years, and now he’s the Store Operations Specialist for our Denver retail location, overseeing all the computers, phones, HVAC systems and other facilities-related issues. He also does customer relations and even goes back into the field occasionally to do system troubleshooting (don’t worry — we keep him away from the sockets).
“I’m proud to work at ListenUp because the name means prestige,” says Robert. “When you say ‘ListenUp’ to anyone in the business or the community, it means something. And I like the fact that our owners are very respectful of what we all do.”
