We have numerous showrooms in which you can compare products and figure out which ones you like best. Our career salespeople will take the time to help you get the component or system that matches your needs, desires and budget. We are also experts in system control and installation, so we will make sure everything is beautifully integrated into your home and easy to use for the whole family.
Room A: High-end Music

The acoustics of your listening environment have a huge impact on sound quality — that’s why our High-end Music room has been acoustically optimized by Rives Audio, the world- leader in room acoustics technology. In here you’ll find two state-of-theart stereo systems, with speakers from B&W and Sonus faber and electronics from McIntosh, Classé and more. So sit back and enjoy.

Room B: Dedicated Home Theater

Our Dedicated Home Theater room features a JVC 4K projector, 138-inch screen and top-of-the line equipment from Classé and B&W. Plush, comfortable theater seating and optimized room acoustics really bring the movie theater experience home, while custom programming on the Control4 touchscreen gives you easy, one-touch control of the whole system.

Room C: Architectural Speakers/Conference Room

Here’s where we can show you a number of our in-wall, in-ceiling and outdoor speakers. This is also the place we can sit down with you and discuss exactly what type of system or component you’re interested in. Our experienced career sales consultants will make sure you get exactly what you want and need.

Room D: Stereo and Theater Systems

Room D allows you to compare components from Integra, McIntosh, NAD and PrimaLuna, as well as speakers from GoldenEar, B&W, PSB. You’ll also notice the stunning equipment racks and credenza from Salamander designs. We have a whole line of A/V furniture designed to attractively house your equipment and provide proper ventilation and convenient cord management.

Room E: Living Room Theater

You don’t have to build a dedicated home theater to enjoy a front-projection system. With a retractable video screen and stealth projector, sleek B&W speakers and elegant cabinetry, this lifestyle-oriented theater shows how today’s modern components can easily blend in with your décor.

Room F: Integrated Theater

The Integrated Theater is a great example of a seamless installation. The components are all hidden away for a totally streamlined presentation, and the custom speaker enclosures give the room its own unique style. Advanced lighting and control produce a dramatic effect, and everything can be operated with the touch of a button on the Control4 touchscreen.

Room G: Electronics, Speakers and Turntables

This 2-channel demo room allows customers to compare different speakers and components. You’ll be able to find equipment that’s exactly right for your needs and your budget. In addition to traditional receivers, amps and preamps, we have integrated amps and D to A converters designed to enhance your digital, computerbased audio. We also have a great line of turntables for those who prefer the warmth of analog sound.

Room H: Receivers and Speakers

This demo room showcases surround-sound systems, receivers and speaker packages. One of our helpful sales consultants will help you choose from different configurations, sizes and price ranges, so you get a system to satisfy your taste and budget.

Room I: Flat-Panel HDTVs

In the Video room you can view the best LCD, LED and plasma displays available today. Unlike the big box stores which display their sets in brightly lit, warehouse-like conditions, our cozy viewing area has adjustable lighting to more closely approximate conditions in your own home.

Personal Listening

Whether you need to upgrade ear-buds to make your iPod sound better or you want a pair of over-the-ear headphones to rock out at home, we have a solution for you. Our Personal Listening area lets you experience the latest and greatest models from Grado, Denon, thinksound and more. You can even bring in your iPod and listen to your very own collection to help you make your decision.

Cables and Computer Audio

In this area we can show you a large variety of upgraded cables that will let your system deliver its peak performance. There are also two desktop systems that give you an idea of how much better music from your computer can sound. Powered speakers from Audioengine and B&W plus outboard digital-to-analog converters can really make you computer audio sing!

Outdoor Entertainment

Your music doesn’t have to be confined to inside your house – we have a great selection of all-weather speakers that allow you to take the party outside, too! We also carry advanced new flat-screen TVs specifically designed for outdoor applications, so you can also watch your favorite sporting events and programs. And with today’s convenient apps for your smartphone, you can control everything from the palm of your hand.

Here’s where you can find out a little more about some of our valued associates, who average 17 years in the A/V business and 12 years with ListenUp.

Store Manager
Employee Since 1983
Chris Havekost
Boulder native Chris Havekost has one of those “start at the bottom and work your way to the top” stories. In 1983 he was hired as a youngster fresh out of CU to run parts for ListenUp’s (now defunct) car stereo department, and within several years he became that store’s top salesman. Chris moved over to the Denver home A/V store in 1992, and in 2005 he became its manager.“I’ve really found my calling,” says Chris. “I’m a total audio/video freak, and it’s really cool to be around all the latest cutting-edge gear and think of creative ways to display it to the public. The look on our customers’ faces when they experience one of our great systems is really satisfying to me.” True to his Scandinavian heritage, Chris enjoys skiing, climbing, mountain biking, and other outdoor pursuits to balance out his time indoors.

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 2001
Craig Congdon
One day back when he was the owner of an A/V shop in Bettendorf, Iowa, Craig Congdon realized he hadn’t been skiing since he opened the store. He further realized that this had to do not only with the long hours inherent in owning your own business, but also the fact that he lived in Iowa. So he loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly… er, Denver.Craig has a particular love for high-performance stereo systems. “Many of my clients want custom-oriented home theaters, but I also do a lot of stereo setups. The high-end two-channel systems give you a great point of reference for everything else.” Storing content on hard-drives is the big thing these days, says Craig, and the Sonos digital music system, which allows easy access to these digitized tunes, has made music even more fun. “I have a Sonos system with five Zone Controllers, and when I have company everyone loves to grab a controller and dial up their favorite songs.”

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 2004
Jeremy Gage
Jeremy Gage came to us from the great northwest — Seattle, to be specific, where he was a salesman and manager at a regional electronics chain. Though it was primarily a retail operation, his store did do installations, and Jeremy often took the initiative to go to customers’ homes to see what they really needed. This experience laid the groundwork for his time here at ListenUp, where most transactions involve some degree of custom integration.“I enjoy showing potential clients the best equipment we have to offer, because people get excited when they experience home entertainment at that level. That’s why they come to ListenUp. But regardless of the level someone chooses, it usually involves an in-home consultation to make sure we put together a setup that’s exactly right for their unique requirements.”

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 1990
Scott Genaw
Possessing an effervescent enthusiasm for hi-fi and the patois of a jazzman, Scott Genaw has been a distinctive presence in our Denver store since 1990. An industry veteran all the way back to 1981, Scott first worked in our car stereo department for several years before moving into home audio. “I dig working retail,” says Scott, “because on a given day we might do anything — sell a flat-panel TV, get someone 20 feet of speaker wire, or design a high-end system. And what better way to make a living than by helping people turn their music up?”Scott’s family has deep roots in Colorado — he was born in Colorado Springs when his father was stationed at the Air Force Academy, and his great-grandmother actually moved here directly from Italy. When not bringing better sound and video to the good people of Denver, Scott enjoys hunkering down at home with his eight vintage Turkish rugs, his two Chows and his long-time girlfriend.

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 1988
Kevin Russell
Before coming to ListenUp, Kevin Russell was a flight attendant for 10 years — which may explain why he still makes sure all our theater recliners are in their full upright positions. He’d always had a passion for music, so when he and his wife moved to the Washington Park neighborhood in 1988 he applied for a job at ListenUp. “I have no idea what they saw in a 33-year old former flight attendant with no sales experience, but they gave me a shot at it and I never looked back.”This faith was amply rewarded, as Kevin has been one of ListenUp’s top salespeople. Though he works in the Denver store, he’s also been involved in some very sophisticated custom home systems. After one especially positive sales experience Kevin received a thank you letter from a grateful customer, in which she quoted from the I Ching: “Music has the power to ease tension within the heart and to loosen the grip of obscure emotions.” “This is one of those notes that reminds me what it is we really do here at ListenUp,” says Kevin.

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 1994
Scott Weverstad
With a Dad who worked for Kellogg’s, Scott Weverstad lived all over when he was young, from California to Texas and Florida to Oregon. But the family ended up in Battle Creek, Michigan for Scott’s formative years. After high school Scott went to work for an A/V superstore in the Grand Rapids area for four years before moving over to a local specialty store for two more. Scott moved out here and got a job at ListenUp back in 1994.Scott’s took up the guitar when he was 15, and his band Off the Hook plays a couple of weekends every month.“I’ve always been into music, so that’s one of the things I love about working at ListenUp — I get to work in my hobby,” says Scott, who sites Santana and Pink Floyd as some of his musical influences. “Plus I get to visit some amazing homes when I’m helping clients set up their systems. All in all it’s a pretty good gig!”

Sales Consultant
Employee Since 2010
Larry Wall
Larry Wall grew up in the Boston area and developed a love of music at an early age. Apparently got bitten by the hi-fi bug early, too, as he built a quadraphonic Heath kit amp when he was 14 and later ended up at Cal State Northridge to study music and engineering.“I took a summer job selling hi-fi one year and loved it,” says Larry, “and I’ve been working in this business ever since — over 30 years. I still love mixing and matching complementary components for customers who are passionate about their music, and ListenUp gives me a broader palette of great gear to come up with the most musical solution for my customers’ needs. While I enjoy the challenge of designing a reliable and easy to use Home Automation or Home Theater system, my true passion is for music systems. I even design and build my own speakers as a hobby.”When he’s not working, Larry loves the outdoors, especially mountain areas, and he has spent time hiking, backpacking and motorcycling in the Appalachians, Sierras, and, for the last 20 years, the Rockies.
