Jim Kearns has been a salesman in our People’s Republic of Boulder location since 1989. “I’m originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey. I’ve been an audio enthusiast since the early seventies, and actually in the audio/video business since 1984. Before that I was a carpenter who did some remodels for audio stores. As someone from a state just slightly larger than a good sized amplifier, it’s only natural that Rhode Island native Bob Murphy would end up in the audio/video biz. After working in an audio store and then as a manufacturer’s rep for several years, Bob joined the ListenUp staff in 1981 and was instrumental in opening the Boulder store. He subsequently moved to the Denver location in the mid-eighties and helped start the video division, which specialized in laser discs, front projectors and surround sound — all before the term “home theater” had even been coined.

Missing the smell of patchouli, Bob came back to the Boulder store in 1990, and he’s now the store manager. “The industry continues to be fun and interesting to me. I enjoy coming to work every day — it’s fun to face new challenges, and to stay ahead of the latest technologies.” And all while living in the wide open spaces…
