Assistant Manager
Karen Guion came to ListenUp in 1994 after working for a company that built swimming pools. She also had a pool-cleaning business of her own, but she got burned-out — literally — from being in the sun all day. “I’m a light-skinned blonde,” Karen exclaims, “and I got tired of being fried all the time.” She knew the guy who was then the manager of ListenUp’s warehouse, and he told her about an opening in the Professional Division.
Karen’s now the assistant manager, and she has wwweloped a real interest in advanced pro systems. “We’ve done some amazing jobs lately, including the new chapel at Regis University and Schlessman Hall at the Denver Art Museum. Knowing the quality of work we do, I always feel proud when I tell people that I work for ListenUp.”

Sales Consultant
Jeff Largen is a 14-year industry veteran, but his A/V experience actually began much earlier.
“I was one of those kids that took everything apart to see how it worked. One time I disassembled our TV and cut off the antenna wires, and my parents were pretty upset. That’s when I realized I had a strong interest in electronics.”
Originally from Hamburg, Iowa (which is not as romantic as it sounds), Jeff came out to Denver to go to college in 1988. In 1995 he moved to Omaha to work for an A/V company that was also a film distributor. In late 2005 he returned to Colorado and started with us shortly thereafter.
“I enjoy working with cutting-edge equipment on a daily basis and the day-to-day challenges of learning new technologies and implementing those technologies into what we do.”
In his free time Jeff enjoys fishing, cooking, his two Boston Terriers (good thing we had the comma between the last two items) and electronics, of course. In fact, he still occasionally takes stuff apart — but now he gets paid for it!

Sales Consultant
Norm Simmer was one of the first people hired by ListenUp, way back in 1974. “Chuck Morris [the legendary Denver concert promoter] bought a club in Boulder, and I had a six-week contract with Walt and Steve to get the sound system up and running.” Norm worked on ListenUp’s renovation of Ebbet’s Field’s sound system as well, and he was eventually employed directly by the club.
After running the sound at Ebbets and then going on the road with various national touring acts, including Frank Zappa, Norm ended up at Feyline Presents, where he once again teamed with ListenUp on the design and installation of the system at the Rainbow Music Hall. In 1978 Norm returned to ListenUp full-time as one of the first installers for the new Pro Division. And he’s been here ever since. He worked for years as manager of the department and is now one of our top salesmen, creating advanced systems for clients such as Regis University and the Denver Art Museum.

Commercial Division Manager
When Andy Korobkin likes something, he sticks with it. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, he came west to attend the University of Denver in 1974, and he’s been here ever since. He was an avid rugby player for 25 years, playing in matches throughout the country. And he’s now been in corporate A/V sales for 25 years, as well.
We’ve been lucky enough to have him at ListenUp since 1995. “I really like the freedom that ListenUp’s management gives me to satisfy the customer. I have a lot of leeway to acquire products that we might not sell in other parts of the company — basically, if a customer wants it, I can get it. With our in-house engineering, design and installation resources we can also provide an amazing level of service, too.”
Over the years, Andy has learned some interesting and esoteric lessons about certain products. “Raytheon is one of my customers, and they needed some video monitors for their station in Antarctica that could withstand temperatures down to 80 below. I did a little research and found out that LCD monitors contain a gel that freezes at temperatures that low, but good old tube-based sets do okay. Who knew?”
Andy’s other interests include World War II history, especially regarding aviation. “I recently got to go up in one of the last working B-29s in existence. Although I loved doing it, it was a cramped, loud, uncomfortable plane to ride in. It gave me a whole new respect for the guys who often flew 10 and 12 hour missions in that aircraft.”
Though he’s now lived in Denver longer than he did in the D.C. area, there’s one Colorado passion he hasn’t adopted: Broncomania. “I’m still an avid Redskins fan,” says Andy. “That’ll never change.”
Like we said — when he likes something, he sticks with it.
