"The Best" captures Otis Redding in the studio and onstage.

"The Best" captures Otis Redding in the studio and onstage.

This being Tuesday, we’re thinking about new music arriving in stores. But we’re also looking ahead, and behind, with a couple of polls.  Steve Guttenberg, who blogs as The Audiophiliac, asks: “What’s your favorite audio product of all time?” Answers include your “first hi fi,” MP3 players, speakers and a wild card answer. Go vote. Meanwhile, the gang at Stereophile asks: “Where would you like to see audio go in the next 20-30 years?” Surely a reader as smart as you has the answer.

Oh yeah, there is new music: Timothy B. Schmit’s Expando returns to his country and folk-rock roots; former Pavement guitarist Scott Kannberg has an album, Real Feel, as Spiral Stairs; feel the soul on The Best: See and Hear, Otis Redding, a  CD/DVD combo set that includes Redding on the 1967 Stax/Volt tour (along with performances by Booker T. & the MG’s and Sam & Dave) shortly before his death; Natural Forces showcases Lyle Lovett performing songs from such Texas writers as Vince Bell, Robert Earl Keen, and the legendary Townes Van Zandt.
