When using a TOSLINK fiber optic cable, it is the one most important audio cable in your system. The sound quality of all the channels, whether two or five or more, are dependent on this one cable to deliver an undistorted, smooth, clear and dynamic performance.

TOSLINK (also known as EIAJ optical) signals have the same format as the electrical S/PDIF signals, but instead of using high/low voltages on copper to represent the binary 1's and 0's of digital information, TOSLINK utilizes a series of on/off pulses of a red transmitting light. The light source is a simple and inexpensive LED.

Advanced construction
Corruption of timing information, known as jitter, is the primary distortion in digital audio. Imperfections in an optical fiber scatter the light information. The light then takes many different paths within the fiber, each path having a slightly different length. This smearing of time information leads to misinterpretation of the digital data, eventually giving you sound with less clarity and more irritation. AudioQuest uses the most advanced material's and construction techniques to alleviate these potential problems.

The thoroughly engineered synthetic fiber in the AudioQuest OptiLink-G minimizes signal loss and jitter (time based distortion). The plug's brass ferrule (the rigid tube used to keep the fibers accurately aligned within the connector) also contributes to ideal light transmission and the highest quality sound at a reasonable price.

OptiLink-G's unusual see-through construction is practical because it is impossible for light to leave or enter the fiber except through the ends. For proof, turn off the lights and you will not see a hint of red glow from the nearly invisible fiber.
