Get the whole picture with component cables
Fast Facts
AudioQuest/CinemaQuest YIQ-1 component video cables provide demonstrably better performance than composite or S-video connections.
Silver-Plated Long Grain Copper (SP-LGC) conductors arranged in a symmetrical design provide optimum signal transfer
The Conductor in each cable is four times larger than average component video cables
HCF (Hard Cell Foam) insulation effectively reduces signal interference from outside sources
The definition of YIQ
The component video format separates the luminance and color information into three different cables in order to transmit purer signals and optimize performance. The AudioQuest/CinemaQuest YIQ-1 component video cable is therefore actually three identical 75 ohm coaxial cables, one each for the "Y", "I" and "Q" signals which together carry the video information.
The "Y" is the luminance (or b&w) signal, while the "I" and "Q" signals (also known as Pb and Pr) contain all the color information. By comparison, the two channel S-video system (also known as Y/C), the "I" and "Q" component signals are combined to create a single :C" signal; and a composite video combines all the information into one cable. When available, a three channel component signal is better because it avoids the degradation caused by the process of combining and separating.
The ingredients
YIQ-1 uses solid Silver-Plated Long Grain Copper (SP-LGC) conductors in a symmetrical design. Silver plate is used because it greatly improves high-frequency performance for a fraction of the cost of solid silver. YIQ-1's 2.5% Silver Center Conductor has twice the silver of regular silver plate, so you get even greater performance - and still at a fraction of the cost.
The center conductor is insulated with Hard Cell Foam (HCF). Nitrogen-injected HCF reduces distortion caused by the insulating material. The combination foil and Silver-Plated braid shield provides 100% protection coverage and lower distortion. Gold-Plated RCA, BNC or D-Sub 15 connectors are professionally attached with superior AudioQuest solder.
In addition to a foil and braided shield, the ground uses a 22 awg SP-LGC conductor which is identical to the center conductor. And it's certainly worth noting that all CinemaQuest YIQ cables have four times as large a conductor as an average component video cable, resulting in greatly enhanced signal transfer.
